I Look Too Young and Much Older

Today was nice, I had the day off from work- though I did have someone call trying to push their hours on me. I ended up taking a trip to the ABC store and getting few things. Our conversation went as follows:

Me: I’d like to get these…

Clerk: Okay bangs, I am going to need some proof that you are legal.

I hand him my driver’s license and he looks at it for a moment.

Clerk: Well, I was sure you were underage. Sixteen.

Me: Uh, thanks?

Mind you it was about 11 on a school day. Not to mention I drove up, all on my own, and was paying with a credit card. I realize I do look young, but 16?! Of course then I go to the grocery store and pick up some more Seagram’s Fuzzy Navels and the girl doesn’t even ask for my ID. Go figure.

On a different note, the male mind confuses me. All in the same conversation I am being told about how he has a lunch date on Saturday…and that he likes me and we’d make a good couple. And guys wonder why women don’t take them seriously. I do not know how to take someone seriously that is like that. Though I have been out of the dating scene for a while.

He’s Probably Smooth

Recently I have been talking with this guy. We really do not know each other very well, since up until now we just asked how our days were going and stuff along those lines. Then earlier this week we actually talked and hit it off pretty well. Now suddenly he is saying he likes me? I mean he’s a nice guy I suppose, but I really wish I could tell if people are being sincere. I hate talking to someone and thinking “I’ve heard that line before.” I don’t want to think poorly of someone before I even get to know them, but…

Babysitting

My neighbors’ babysitter called out at the last minute on them yesterday so I said I’d go over. I have work this morning so I wasn’t going to go out and do anything anyways. Plus, their kids are really well behaved, you really don’t do anything anyways (hah). I ended up having a friend of theirs drop off her 2 kids…so 4 kids, 2 that are great and 2 that apparently have issues with anger and violence. I made $85 (finally money that doesn’t get taxes taken out of it), but I’m beginning to wonder if it is even worth it anymore. I think you eventually get to that age where babysitting just isn’t tempting.

You Know You’re Growing Up When…

… You pay attention to the sales going on at the grocery store. I’m still mastering the skill of buying on a budget and getting the most out of my dollar, but I’m slowly getting there. I was in the store picking up some food (and Seagram’s Escapes – Peach Fuzzy Navel, some of the best fruit coolers ever) and I decided to pick up some of those diet microwaveable meals. 4 for $10. So that’s at least 4 days worth of lunches to bring to work, for a little over $2.50 each. Pretty good considering you really can’t get much for that price even at McDonalds. It’ll keep me from buying fast food for my lunch/dinner break so a big plus there.

I’m sure anyone over the age of 21 (or maybe even younger) is probably slapping their forehead right now. But, honestly, I haven’t had to go grocery shopping very often- much less budget my money like I do now. Everyone discovers these things eventually, right?

Linens N Things Incident

I have decided to avoid Linens N Things, and possibly even stop going there all together. Bed Bath & Beyond is basically the same exact store, except always nicer and slightly cleaner so why go to both? They sell the same things for the same price… Yet, knowing all this, I went into LNT even though I had intended to only deposit a check at the bank. Instead I end up spending around an hour searching through their clearance bins for new sheets (that I do not need). What I ended up getting were expensive sheets and pillow shams (that I don’t need) and a pretty nice rug (that I don’t need). On top of that I opened a credit account (that I definitely do not need) just to save 20% on items (I do not need) when I could have just gone home, found a 20% coupon, and bought them with that.

So what am I doing tomorrow? Returning the sheets and shams to LNT, the rug I am very tempted to keep, and then seeing if I can go ahead and pay off my credit card so I can cancel it as soon as possible. Then I’m sitting down and making a list of what I actually need for when I move into my apartment. On top of that I think I am going to (finally) take my mom’s advice and start collecting coupons.

Lesson Learned: Impulse buying is the devil. I do not need any more credit cards. Coupons are my friend.
